A Review of Young & Beardless

Hello and happy Tuesday! Recently I just finished reading Young & Beardless by John Luke Robertson. I was actually really surprised how well it was written and how much I enjoyed his book. I know he is quite younger than me so I wasn’t sure what to expect! But let me tell you it was worth it.

John Luke starts off by introducing his big and loving family so you don’t get too confused in his book when he is speaking about each member. I was familiar with a few names since I watch Duck Dynasty. If you don’t know by now, DD is one of my favorite shows so I can go on and on about that but I won’t!

Okay so the book. Basically here is my summary of it and what I thought. John Luke goes in depth about life, it’s journey, ways to live more positively and faith in your every day actions. Growing up Catholic, I really enjoyed his insight and input on how to be more active with your faith.

This doesn’t mean going to church every Sunday or every day but just by little acts of kindness or helping out others more than usual. You never know how you can change someone’s day by just asking how their day is or simply smiling.

John Luke discusses how life can be tough and not always go our way. We always think we have it badly when someone out there has it way more worse and how everything happens for a reason. Without a failure or struggle in life, that wouldn’t make us who we are today. Nothing comes easy and you have to work at what you want and not get it handed to you.

He also shares quite a few personal stories of his own and how he learned from them. Another thing I really liked was how John Luke incorporated journaling into his book. At the end of each chapter, he would have thorough questions relating to the chapter and to help you out as well. Along with the questions, came along a book recommendation that applies to your every day life as well.

If you get a chance to pick up a copy, I highly recommend it. It was a great and easy read. Do you have any book suggestions? Would love to hear from you!
