Southern State of Mind

Throwback Thursday Travels

Good morning and happy Thursday! It is one more day until the weekend, wahoo. Do you have any big plans? I have a friend’s birthday, some football watching to do and friends in town. It will be jam packed but super fun so can’t complain 😉

I wanted to share with you about my trip to Savannah and Charleston for my 30th birthday. I had an absolute blast! It was a small trip with just my mom, sister and a close friend which worked out wonderfully. I feel like we did so much even though we were only there for a few days. I wish I could go back already. I seriously LOVE both of those cities so much.

The weather was still hot and humid because the south so whatever. Of course, the weather changed I believe like the following week so just our luck ha. But we still enjoyed it regardless. I will start with Savannah since we were only there for a night and half day before we drove to Charleston.

When we arrived that night, we had eaten at Olde Pink House and followed it up with dessert at Lulu’s Chocolate Bar. I may have just eaten whatever I wanted to on this little getaway because it was my birthday and I thought I wouldn’t have any repercussions but you live and learn! Had a tasty cocktail, good ole southern food and chocolate chip cookie dessert with ice cream. SO GOOD.

Before we headed to Charleston, we stopped by Foxy Loxy Cafe, grabbed some caffeine, matcha latte and some GF/DF treats. Drove couple hours to Charleston and then my friend and I immediately hit the beach in Sullivan’s Island. Got some sun (told y’all it was pretty HOT in EARLY OCTOBER), grabbed some grub bbq that so so good. We both got FRIED RIBS, beans and daiquiri. I had to go all out on this food that I never get. I really had no regrets till later on…eekkk.

Before I forget, shout out to King Charles Inn for a wonderful stay and their hospitality. The staff was amazing along with them giving me a card, chocolates and champagne for my birthday. Talk about southern hospitality!

Okay so back to my recap: later that evening, we ate at Peninsula Grill. We had eaten there before when we had gone for a wedding one year. It is so good and I love the location inside of another hotel along with the ambiance. We actually all got a lobster dish that was to die for along with wine.

After dinner, we checked out few bars on King Street: Stars and couple others. It was quite the evening! Saturday, did some damage aka shopping, brunch at Toast, got some cinnamon apple biscuits from Callie’s Hot Little Biscuits, watch the FSU game at Uptown Social, went out later on too. Had some cocktails at The Dewberry and went to Cocktail Club and Prohibition which was a LOT OF FUN.

Sunday aka my ACTUAL BDAY: did breakfast at Eli’s which was a long wait but it was very delicious so I guess it made up for it. Explored St. Michael’s which is one of the oldest churches where George Washington went along with George W Bush. We also got to sit where they did in the pews which was so awesome!

Afterwards, we did even more shopping at The Skinny Dip, Sassy Shortcake, kings street shops along with a Cat Cafe. I love cats and just think it’s so fun to do and play with kitties while you enjoy a beverage or snack! Felt like I was back home with my little nug. Lastly, we explored Rainbow Row, The Battery and Pineapple Fountain. Ended my birthday with dinner at Tavern & Table then Cocktail Club again for cocktails 😉

OUR LAST DAY 😦 Started the day with some coffee from Bitty & Beau’s which is a coffee shop ran by special needs employees. They were all so sweet and the coffee was so tasty. No sarcasm here. I got a toasted marshmallow latte with almond milk and omg let me tell you. And it was a pretty decent size soooo it was worth it haha.

For brunch, we went to 5 Church which is a church that is converted to a restaurant. It was pretty neat. Almost felt like I was in church but wasn’t! Food was great too. Afterwards, we walked around the market downtown, picked up some goodies then left. Stopped by Carolina Cider Store on the way back south to Florida and called it a day.

I can not believe how fast our trip went and how it is already November but I am already planning my next trip soon I hope! Would love to know if you’ve been to CHS or SAV. Hope you have a wonderful day xx
